The Belarusian army is unable to play a decisive role in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
This was announced by the adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vadym Denysenko, on the air of an information telethon. He emphasized that the role of the capabilities of the Belarusian army is often overestimated.
“The Belarusian army cannot actually play any significant role. There are approximately 10-12 thousand more or less combat-capable army. And it will definitely not seriously affect the course of events. Belarus is needed (Russia – ) as a bridgehead to intimidate the West, for that to keep Ukraine under tension and to force us to withdraw most of the troops,” Denysenko said.
Threat from Belarus
On December 13, according to British intelligence, Belarus began an extraordinary test of the combat capability of its forces. The training took place in the north-west of the country, far from the Ukrainian border. In addition, Russia recently transferred additional units of mobilized reservists to Belarus.
British intelligence noted that Belarus played a key role in facilitating Russia’s offensive on Kyiv since February 24, but now it is unlikely that Belarusian troops and Russian units conducting training constitute a force capable of carrying out a new successful offensive in northern Ukraine.
Andriy Demchenko, the speaker of the State Border Service, said that the situation on the border with Belarus remains unchanged and fully under control.
On December 17, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that Belarus is not ready to fully participate in a ground operation against Ukraine.
