Spyridon lived in Cyprus, came from the villagers. He did not have a book education, but he had a lively mind and led a pious lifestyle. He was married, raising children. He imitated the Old Testament patriarchs. After his wife died, Spyridon was elected a bishop, and the Lord rewarded him with the gift of miracles and clairvoyance.

What can be done on December 25
Spyridon’s day was popularly called “Solstice”, because from December 25 the nights become shorter and the days longer. That is why the Slavs performed a special ceremony – the owner of the house stuck an ax in the threshold to protect his family from evil spirits. People fed chickens only from the right sleeve, then the birds gave more eggs.
