Until 2022, four MiG-31 accidents have been officially confirmed in Russia.
To date, Russia does not produce MiG-31 fighter-interceptors, which are carriers of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. The military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation can only service and repair them.
Military and political commentator Oleksandr Kovalenko told about this, commenting on the information that on December 25 in Belarus, one of the Russian MiG-31K fighters, which took part in the moral and psychological terror of Ukrainians, caught fire at the airfield.
“Today, the MiG-31K fighter is under unprecedented resource pressure. These aircraft are regularly used by RIV to simulate strikes by Kh-47M “Kinzhal” missiles. And each such flight is a load on the engine and, in general, on the entire system of the aircraft, which is difficult to name new. MiG-31 fighters were produced from 1975 to 1994, that is, the newest of them is 28 years old. After the cessation of production of fighters, the production of D-30F6 engines was also gradually discontinued,” the expert noted.
Kovalenko reminded that for 2022, four MiG-31 accidents were officially confirmed in Russia:
“This is a record of MiG-31 losses during the year, if we close our eyes to the fact that there may be unofficial losses, which are not yet known.”
