During September-December, thousands of wild birds and animals died due to the use of toxic chemicals by farmers in the territory of the national natural park “Tuzlovsky lymani” of the Odesa region and the surrounding lands.

Ivan Rusev, doctor of biological sciences, employee of the national park, announced this on Facebook.

“We have terrible consequences for wildlife from the activities of agrarians. Only the found corpses of wild animals and their remains are counted in the thousands in the Odesa region, and this is more than 1 thousand pheasants, hundreds and hundreds of gray crows, rooks, wild pigeons, thousands of wild geese and ducks “Kryakv, other types,” he claims.

According to him, dozens of swans, birds of prey, and owls have been dying since September. Many dead predatory mammals – badgers, foxes, jackals, roe deer.

“This ecological disaster could have happened because farmers have been working with poison chemicals with impunity for a long time. This happened because some employees of the State Production and Consumer Service, who “freely” give permission to use poison, turned a blind eye. This is because of the slow, inefficient and unprofessional work of law enforcement officers.” “, the scientist noted.

The expert added that many hunters in the field saw the mass death of animals, but did not react in time, did not write statements to the police, and “only got indignant.”

Rusev believes that the mass death of wild animals will have a negative impact on the state of populations of many species of birds and mammals, as well as on the life of wildlife in general.

According to his information, there was a similar situation in the spring when pigeons, rooks, wolves, etc. died, but no one was brought to justice.

“Now the investigative authorities are collecting evidence and interviewing the farmers as part of the criminal proceedings that have been opened for the fact of the mass death of birds in the national park. But based on my experience and what I see now, how they are ‘operationally working’, I think that they do not seek to bring this case to court,” wrote Rustv.

Mass death of animals and birds in “Tuzlovsky estuaries”

On November 30, the workers of the National Nature Park “Tuzlov Estuaries” discovered dead birds in the floodplain of the Khajider River on the territory of the park – about 50 white-fronted geese, 40 yellow-legged martins, 8 rooks and 2 gray crows. Several live birds with atypical behavior were also found. The carcasses were sent to the Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences for research on the presence of pathogens of bacterial and viral etiology, chemical compounds, in particular those used by farmers.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine applied to the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to register criminal proceedings.
