On the evening of Wednesday, December 28, 2022, the dismantling of the statue of Empress Catherine II began in Odesa. Previously, the fence was dismantled near the monument to the “Founders of Odessa”, the central figure of which is this monument.
As reported by the local publication “Dumska”, the wooden sarcophagus, behind which was the monument to Catherine II, was dismantled by the workers from the very morning.

Dismantling of the monument to Catherine II
On October 20, 2022, an electronic poll was completed in Odesa regarding the fate of the monument “Founders of Odesa”, the central figure of which is the statue of Empress Catherine II. However, the final decision regarding the fate of the monument was made by the city council.
At the end of November 2022, the Odesa City Council decided to dismantle the monument to the “Founders of Odesa”. According to the decision, the statue of the empress will be dismantled and handed over to the Odessa Art Museum.
