85% of Ukrainians consider any territorial concessions by Russia unacceptable, and in September 87% of respondents considered concessions unacceptable.

This is evidenced by the results of the All-Ukrainian public opinion poll “Omnibus”, conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) on December 4-27, 2022.

“For 85% of respondents, no territorial concessions are acceptable. Only 8% believe that in order to achieve peace and preserve independence, it is possible to give up some territories,” the press release based on the results of the survey noted.

“The difference with the current indicator is within the statistical margin of error, i.e. no changes have actually occurred. Also, in September, the same number as now (8%) were in favor of negotiations and were ready to give up certain territories,” the press release states. .

According to the survey, the absolute majority of the population in all regions of Ukraine is against any territorial concessions. Even among residents of the east, where intense fighting continues, 80% of respondents are against concessions (ready for concessions – only 9%), and among residents of the south – 82% are against concessions (only 10% are ready).

As Anton Grushetskyi, deputy director of KMIS, noted, after 10 months of grueling and brutal war, Ukrainians remain steadfast and exclude the narrative of “the need for territorial concessions to appease the aggressor.”

He added that from October until today, Russia has been carrying out regular terrorist attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity, heat and water.

“The obvious goal is to terrorize the population and create a situation of internal tension in order to put pressure on the country’s military and political leadership. However, the analysis of public sentiment in dynamics shows that all these numerous attacks did not affect the willingness of Ukrainians to make compromises,” he emphasized.

KMIS conducted a survey on December 4-27, 2022 using computer-assistedtelephoneinterviews (CATI) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. A total of 2,005 respondents living in all regions of Ukraine (except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) were interviewed.

The survey was conducted with adults (age 18 and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, lived on the territory of Ukraine (within the boundaries controlled by the authorities of Ukraine until February 24, 2022).

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical error of such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) did not exceed 2.4% for indicators close to 50%; 2.1% for indicators close to 25%; 1.5% for indicators close to 10%; 1.1% – for indicators close to 5%.

War in Ukraine:

On December 30, more than 90% of citizens believed in the victory of Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation, while 40% of them are sure that the victory will come before the summer of 2023.

Sociologists noted that, compared to August, Ukrainians’ predictions of victory have not changed. The absolute majority of residents of all macro-regions are convinced of Ukraine’s victory, but in the east there are slightly more skeptics (10%) compared to others.

Among those who believe in the victory of Ukraine, 39% believed that this victory will come before the summer of 2023. 22% bet on victory in 1-2 years, and another 20% believed that victory can be achieved in the coming months.

The absolute majority (54%) of Ukrainians saw victory in the expulsion of Russian troops from the entire territory of Ukraine and the restoration of borders as of January 2014.
