The value of exports fell by 35%, and physical volumes decreased by 38.4%.

In 2022, during the war, Ukrainian business exported goods worth 44.1 billion dollars and weighing 99.8 million tons.

As Deputy Minister of Economy – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka reported on Facebook, this is the first year when the volume of exports and logistics came to the fore.

“Under normal conditions, trade indicators could seem catastrophic, because the value of exports is 35% lower than in 2021. And physical volumes have decreased by 38.4%. However, in wartime, this is a feat: to export in conditions of blockade of ports and constant attacks on infrastructure almost 100 million tons of products (of which 16.3 million tons – through the grain corridor),” he noted.

Among goods, the leader in terms of money (and volume) is corn. Exports amounted to 24.99 million tons, worth 5.94 billion dollars, which is 1% more than in 2021.

In second place – sunflower oil – 5.46 billion dollars. Reduction compared to 2021 in terms of money – by 14.4%, and in volumes by 16.3% (4.29 million tons).

At the same time, sunflower seeds broke into the TOP-10.

“We exported 2.7 million tons of it worth 1.25 billion dollars. This is 33 times more than last year. This is the volume that the oil extraction plants could not process,” the head of trade noted.

Although iron ore remained in the top with exports of 23.9 million tons worth $2.9 billion, it lost 45.9% in volume and 57.8% in value. The reason is that seaports for ore and other industrial goods are still closed, and prices and demand are falling due to fears of a recession.

Wheat Ukraine exported by 44% less – 11.2 million tons, worth 2.6 billion dollars.

One of the traditional leaders of industrial exports – insulated wires – 1.32 billion dollars. This is 16.4% less than in 2021, which is also associated with a 13.6% decrease in the volume of exports.

Next in the ranking – semi-finished steel and hot-rolled products – highlight the whole tragedy of Ukrainian metallurgy. Fall in volumes during the year -72%. The total export volume of semi-finished products is 1.9 million tons worth 1.1 billion dollars, and hot-rolled products are 1.3 million tons worth 1 billion dollars.

Geographically, 63% of exports fell to the EU ($27.9 billion). Most – to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Germany and others.

Outside the EU, Turkey became the largest export market ($2.9 billion), ahead of China ($2.46 billion). But at the same time, within the framework of the year, exports to Turkey decreased by 29%, and to China by a staggering 69%.

Imports decreased by almost half in volume, but in value by only 19.6%.

Exports during the war:

The Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club predicted that in 2022, Ukrainian export revenue from the products of the agro-industrial complex will amount to about 23.3 billion dollars, which is 16% less than the same figure in 2021.

On July 22, Ukraine and Russia, through the mediation of Turkey, signed separate agreements with the UN on the restoration of the export of Ukrainian agricultural products through the Black Sea after the start of the full-scale war. On August 1, the first ship with Ukrainian food left Odesa since February 24.

On November 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine can expand the grain corridor.

On November 17, it became known that the implementation of the “grain initiative” was extended for another 120 days.

In December 2022, Ukraine entered new export markets.
