The investment support program will be implemented through the State Agrarian Register of Ukraine.
Rural households, small farmers and small agricultural enterprises will receive assistance in the total amount of 15.5 million dollars as part of a project financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
As reported by the organization’s press service, the goal of the project is to support the functioning, strengthening and strengthening of value-added chains in agriculture, fisheries and forestry, as well as their adaptation to wartime conditions.
The project will be aimed at supporting producers in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia and part of Chernivtsi regions by providing appropriate grants for investments at the level of farms and value chains in combination with the provision of consulting services.
“This will meet the food needs of the local and internally displaced population in the west of the country and solve the problem of food security in all regions of the country in the near and short term, and will also be of crucial importance for preventing a food crisis in 2023,” the head of the rural sector said. The investment support program will be implemented through the State Agrarian Register of Ukraine and, starting in March 2023, grants will be provided to relevant agricultural producers and agricultural enterprises.
In particular, in Lviv Oblast, grants will be directed to berry growing, vegetable growing, and aquaculture. In Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk and part of Chernivtsi oblasts, producers of Hutsul sheep bryndza, Hutsul cow bryndza, Transcarpathian honey and Transcarpathian wine will be able to receive grants.
“Grants ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 will be awarded in Ukrainian hryvnia at the current exchange rate, and grantees will be required to make an appropriate contribution to finance the proposed investment. Specific eligibility and selection criteria, as well as procedural and administrative application requirements will be published as part of a communication campaign that will begin in the near future,” the organization said.
Aid during the war:
On August 12, 2022, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy launched an online platform to support farmers – the State Agrarian Register.
Producers of agricultural products can register on the platform, regardless of their size, organizational and legal form or areas of activity. After registration, all key information about the producer is automatically pulled into the register and can be checked by the agricultural producer.
On November 27, 2022, the United States provided $20 million to support the Ukrainian grain initiative.
