Elections in Brazil
As you know, presidential elections in Brazil were held in the fall of 2022, in which Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won in the second round. In general, he became president for the third time: for the first time – in 2003, then he was re-elected in 2006. According to Brazilian law, one person cannot be the head of state more than two times in a row, so after the second term she did not run again.
In 2017, he was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison on corruption charges, but was later released. In 2021, the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil canceled all charges against the politician. In 2022, after winning the election of the current president Jair Bolsonaro, he again returned to big politics.
However, Bolsonaro, known for his radical right-wing views, did not admit defeat. He contested the election results and called on his supporters to demand “justice”.
