Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeev, called on Berlin to hand over Leopard 2 to Kyiv as soon as possible.
For the further deoccupation of Ukrainian territories captured by the Russian Federation, Kiev needs German Leopard 2 tanks.
Such a statement was made by Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeev, and called on Berlin to hand over Leopard 2 to Kyiv as soon as possible, dpa reports.
“German weapons, German tanks are vital. We have very little time for discussions. We expect our allies to understand this and do the right thing,” the diplomat said.
Makeyev noted that further reconquest of Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia is impossible without Leopard tanks. “German weapons save lives. German anti-aircraft systems help us intercept missiles, and German tanks will help us liberate territories. And there will be fewer atrocities committed by the Russian occupation forces there,” Makeev said.
The war in Ukraine and the situation with German tanks:
On January 15, 2023, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, reported that the concern has 22 Leopard 2 tanks and 88 Leopard 1 units at its disposal.
The German company Rheinmetall, which is engaged in the production of weapons, said that it will take some time to deliver refurbished Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine, which are stored in the company’s warehouses.
“Even if a decision is made tomorrow that will allow us to send our Leopard tanks to Kyiv, the supply will continue until the beginning of next year,” said Papperger.
