Denys Monastyrsky – biography
Denys Monastyrskyi was born in 1980 in Khmelnytskyi and graduated from the Khmelnytskyi University of Law. Obtained the title of candidate of legal sciences.
Until 2019, he was engaged in legal activities, published scientific works on jurisprudence and was the author of several draft laws, which were later submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. He worked as an associate professor at his alma mater and headed the department of law-making and scientific expertise at the university.
He started his political activity in 2019, when he was elected deputy from the Servant of the People party. From 2019 to 2021, he was the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement.
On July 15, 2021, he was nominated as a candidate for the position of Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and assumed this position the next day. Monastyrsky replaced the infamous Arsen Avakov in this position. Thus, Denys Monastyrsky stayed in his position for less than 3 years before his death.
Family and hobbies
Denys Monastyrskyi was married. His wife Zhanna works as a lawyer at the State Bureau of Investigation. The deceased minister also had two sons. Monastyrskyi called his hobbies water and forest hikes and recreation in the forest near the river, as well as the work of Volodymyr Vysotskyi.
