Rheinmetall added that the company cannot independently finance the repair of this equipment.
Arms manufacturer Rheinmetall may hand over 10 to 15 Leopard 2 tanks to the Ukrainian military this year, if the German government decides to do so.
This was reported to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung directly at Rheinmetall. They added that repairing the Leopard 2 is quite expensive, so the company cannot finance it on its own.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, stated that his company is ready to hand over tanks to Ukraine no earlier than 2024, as repairs take a long time. So the cars should not just be repainted, but converted for use in the war. To do this, the tanks are completely disassembled and then rebuilt. He said that the concern’s warehouses now have 110 decommissioned Leopard tanks of the first and second models.
Leopard tanks for Ukraine
The office of the President of Ukraine is confident that German Leopard-2 tanks can be handed over to Ukraine based on the results of the Ramstein-8 meeting.
Poland has already declared its readiness to supply a “company” of German-made tanks. Finland also intends to transfer tanks to Ukraine.
As previously reported, experts believe that about 100 tanks are needed for one offensive of the Armed Forces, but a lot depends on the preparation, supply of spare parts and Ukraine’s plans for the spring.
