He emphasized that NATO is the best security guarantee for Ukraine.
Russia is fighting to ensure that Ukraine’s path to NATO is not short.
As the press service of the President’s Office reported, the head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during his online participation in the session “Restoring security and peace” as part of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
He emphasized that Ukraine sees how Russia is trying to strengthen and prepare for revenge.
“We believe that they will not succeed, because they are fighting not only against Ukraine, but also against a civilized approach to life,” Zelensky is convinced.
He emphasized that one of the priorities for Ukraine is to obtain security guarantees against such aggression in the future, since our country is not yet a member of NATO. And this is one of the points of the Ukrainian formula of the world proposed by him.
“We understand that we are not yet in NATO. Russia also understands this and is fighting to ensure that Ukraine’s path to NATO is not short. But I am aware that we are on this path. NATO is the best guarantee of security for Ukraine, our society, the future for our children, but we have already offered – while we are still on this path – security guarantees for our state.
Ukraine and NATO details of cooperation
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called in Davos to significantly increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
He welcomed Britain’s decision to send Challenger tanks to Kyiv and noted that Ukraine needs more air defense systems and armor, as well as ammunition, spare parts and maintenance capabilities to ensure existing weapons continue to function.
The NATO secretary general added that the situation on the frontline had stabilized in recent weeks, but the prolonged fierce fighting in the eastern city of Bakhmut demonstrated the importance of providing more weapons to support Ukraine.
