Romanenko emphasized that he is waiting for the commission’s decision in order to make his conclusion about the cause of the tragedy.
Aviation expert Valery Romanenko analyzed the versions of the tragedy with the fall of the helicopter in Brovary on January 18, as a result of which 14 people died, including the highest leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. He noted that the Super Puma helicopter is simply perfect compared to the Russian Mi-8 or Mi-18 helicopter.
On the air of the FREEDOM TV channel, Romanenko noted that if you take the entire history of Super Puma helicopters – both military and civilian versions – the number of its disasters is 2-3.
“Also, if a car is dangerous, it has the same accident, the cause of several aviation incidents is usually the same. Here, all the reasons are different. So I would not say that these are dangerous helicopters. Although, of course, for our State Emergency Service and the National Guard, we would like a car with a slightly different purpose, more, so to speak, militarized,” he added.
The expert also noted that helicopters do not fly below 150 meters. In addition, the flight crew always prepares for the flight using the flight map and can clearly trace from it whether there are any obstacles on the route in order to bypass them at altitude in advance.
“And the fact that helicopters are pressed to the ground in order not to be hit by anti-aircraft missiles, this is relevant only in the front-line zone. At such a height, as he flew, it is necessary 40 kilometers, let’s say, if the height is 200 meters, it is necessary to fly 40 km from the border in order for the enemy’s radar to notice it,” Romanenko said.
In addition, the aviation expert explained how the autorotation mode works in the helicopter.
“The plane, if for some reason both of its engines turn off, can then continue its flight in planing, i.e. like a glider, it retains some lifting power due to inertia, and it can land quite smoothly without much damage. In a helicopter, this mode is called autorotation. That is there is a propeller on the top of the helicopter, when the helicopter falls, the propeller will simply spin it up and act as a kind of parachute, allowing the helicopter to land neatly, without much damage and without injuring those on board, training is carried out even for young pilots, so that they understand how it works. But this requires a minimum height of 400-500 meters,” he explained.
Romanenko also commented on the version with poor visibility. He believes that the fog could cause a disaster only in the event of a collision with some object.
“The fog – it means it collided with something, it was not noticed in the fog, otherwise the fog is not an obstacle for the helicopter, it flies through the fog, flies through the clouds, what are the problems? In this case, the fog could have been the cause if the helicopter was flying too low, But enough there is no objective information about this yet. There is a radio altimeter on the helicopter. I think that such a machine, which is, frankly, very complex in terms of equipment, also has a warning system about collision with the ground. In addition, before takeoff, the pilots received a weather report and they measured the capabilities of the helicopter. Before taking it into flight, the pilots would determine that the minimum weather corresponds to whether it is possible to fly. There is a certain minimum weather for each type of aircraft,” the expert continued.
At the same time, Romanenko emphasized that he is waiting for a decision from the commission in order to make his conclusion about the cause of the disaster.
“The National Police informed us that some conclusions will be made within two days. Then I will simply consider these conclusions, because there will be some objective information. The commission will say that we listened to the witnesses, reviewed the technical condition of the main systems of the helicopter. That is, whether the engines were working in it, it can be determined whether there were any… Suppose, if the helicopter does not have a tail rotor together with the helicopter, and it is lying somewhere a kilometer away, then the reason is clear here. influence. That is, it is not an anti-aircraft missile, and it is not an anti-aircraft missile complex. In fact, I really do not believe that it could have been an explosion on board. There are either technical reasons or a crew error. Most likely, one of these two reasons,” Romanenko concluded.
Air crash in Brovary
