Such a scenario would require Germany’s permission.
The Netherlands wants to pay for Leopard tanks to be sent to Ukraine as part of a coalition of European allies and NATO.
The Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kaisa Ollongren, recalled that the country previously paid for the shipment of Soviet T-72 tanks from the Czech Republic in this way, and this could work for the Leopard, writes Bloomberg.
“This is what we are ready to do,” she said.
According to Ollongren, Poland and Finland are also ready to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine as part of the coalition. However, such a scenario would require Berlin’s permission.
“We are all waiting to hear Germany’s position on this, but I am a supporter of trying to find a solution and sending tanks to Ukraine,” the minister concluded.
Delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine
As previously reported, Germany refuses to hand over tanks and does not give the “green light” for other countries to supply their equipment to other states. However, the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania predicted that Ukraine could receive hundreds of tanks after Ramstein.
On January 19, the Bundestag did not support the proposal of conservatives to vote for the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
