The US continues to work with other partners and allies to understand what else can be given to Ukraine.
Deputy Pentagon representative Sabrina Singh explained why the US does not transfer M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. She emphasized that today providing our country with these weapons “simply makes no sense.”
“As you know, we provided the Bradley, we see other countries stepping up and continuing to provide Ukraine with whatever equipment and materials they can,” Singh was quoted as saying by CNN.
She also commented on the German side’s statement that Germany will not provide tanks to Ukraine until the USA does so.
“At the end of the day, it’s Germany’s decision. It’s their sovereign decision as to what security assistance they’re going to provide. So we won’t be able to talk to them (about the Abrams), but I think we’re certainly doing everything we can to support Ukraine in because they need it,” the Pentagon representative emphasized.
Singh also added that the US continues to work with other partners and allies to understand what else can be provided to Ukraine. According to her, this is the essence of tomorrow’s meeting in the Rammstein format.
Tanks for Ukraine
Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas said that during a meeting of defense ministers at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, several countries will announce the delivery of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. According to him, the total number of armored vehicles, which will be announced at tomorrow’s meeting, will reach hundreds.
At the same time, the Bundestag did not support the proposal of conservatives to vote for the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine. German deputies considered this issue on January 19.
Earlier, in a telephone conversation with Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed the position that Germany could agree to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. However, Berlin wants Washington to transfer Abrams.
