On January 23, the tenth package of sanctions will not be discussed at the meeting of the heads of foreign affairs of the EU countries.
The countries of the European Union are working on the 10th package of sanctions against Russia, which will come into force next month.
Diplomatic sources told Reuters that some EU countries have already asked for new sanctions to limit the bloc’s cooperation with Moscow in the field of nuclear fuel, ban the import of Russian diamonds and cut trade with Kremlin ally Belarus.
Senior diplomats from the three countries said the next package of sanctions should be ready by the February 24 anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“The next package of sanctions will be ready around the tragic first anniversary of the invasion,” said one senior diplomat. A second official said “there was a desire” to prepare measures for that time. However, they did not discuss who and what might fall under this package.
“It is still too early, we have just received the ninth package,” said a senior diplomat from the EU country, which had yet to be convinced to move to another package of sanctions after the previous package was agreed in December.
It is reported that no decisions on this issue are expected at the meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday.
Sanctions against Russia: details
As you know, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the European Union has already introduced nine packages of sanctions against the aggressor country.
Work on the tenth package is already underway. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that they also intend to introduce sanctions against Belarus and Iran, which support Russia in the war.
