Military officials will have to understand why wholesale prices for the army are many times higher than retail prices in stores.

The Verkhovna Rada summoned the leadership of the Ministry of Defense to a meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security due to the scandal surrounding inflated prices in state procurement. People’s deputy Maryana Bezugla informed about this.

“We call the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on National Security, Defense and Intelligence,” she briefly wrote on her Facebook.

In the comments under the message, the People’s Deputy clarified that the committee meeting will take place in the near future, but will be held behind closed doors. Bezugla also promised to inform the public about the results of this meeting.

Scandal with purchases of products by the Ministry of Defense

On January 21, the Ukrainian mass media published data on the contracts of the Ministry of Defense for the purchase of products for the Armed Forces. As it turned out, the officials bought products many times more expensive than the retail prices in the capital’s supermarkets.

The authors of the investigation stated that the Ministry of Defense has not yet responded to their request on this topic.

At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada and the State Audit Service have already shown interest in the results of the journalistic investigation.
