The ground services were informed about the explosive device by the pilots of the Boeing 737, which was flying from the Polish city of Katowice to Athens. There were 192 people on board.
It said the plane was ordered to change course and fly over the sea, as required by safety protocols for such situations. In addition, Hungarian and Greek fighters rose to the sky to accompany the liner.

Ryanair incident in 2021
In May 2021, a Ryanair plane flying from Athens to Vilnius was forced to land at the Minsk airport at the request of the Belarusian authorities. After landing, the country’s authorities detained the founder of the opposition Telegram channel Nexta, Roman Protasevich, who was flying on this flight.
As a formal pretext for the forced landing of the plane, the Lukashenka regime used a fake report about a bomb on board. It appeared after the plane was forced to change course.
To force the crew to obey Minsk’s demands, the Belarusian military raised a fighter jet into the sky.
