In Ukraine, a dangerous cookie was discovered, it contains a substance that causes terrible consequences, even paralysis. Currently, these cookies have been withdrawn from sale, but the State Production and Consumer Service of the Ivano-Frankivsk region urges Ukrainians to be vigilant.
“The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) received a notification dated January 12, 2023 No. 2022.7376-fup 4 regarding the detection of a high acrylamide content in cookies ” , manufactured in Romania (manufacturer: Ro Star SA, Romania) and exported from Poland (wholesaler: VYV DISTRIBUTION Sp. z oo, Poland) to Ukraine (recipient: LLC “LVIVMPORT”, 2 Volodymyra Velykyho Street, Lviv , 79021)”, the message says.
The State Production and Consumer Service in Ivano-Frankivsk region warned about the need to withdraw cookies from sale. Buyers were urged to inform the Head Office of the institution about cases of detection of products with a dangerous substance.
“Acrylamide is an organic compound, the amide of acrylic acid with the composition CH2CHCONH2. It has high solubility in water and alcohols. It exhibits strong neurotoxic properties. A characteristic feature of acrylamide is that signs of poisoning are revealed only after a latent period of several days to weeks,” the State Ministry of Production and Consumer Affairs noted . .
Symptoms of substance damage are also reported. It causes increased sweating on the hands and feet, numbness and paralysis of the limbs. In addition, in contact with the eyes, acrylamide causes irritation and damages the cornea of the eye. Inhaling the substance is also very dangerous. Acrylamide fumes and dust can have a negative effect on the nervous system.
