The US said that the ongoing atrocities by the Russian Federation only emphasize the need to support Ukraine.
During a speech in Jerusalem, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on Israel to increase aid to Ukraine due to Iran’s support for the Russian Federation.
According to the newspaper maariv, Blinken met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Yitzhak Herzog, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and opposition leader Yair Lapid. In a conversation with them, he raised the topic of the importance of supporting Kyiv.
“In turn, Russia supplies Iran with sophisticated weapons. Russia’s ongoing atrocities only underscore the importance of providing support for all of Ukraine’s needs – humanitarian, economic and security – as it courageously defends its people and its very right to exist, the subject, which we discussed even today,” the Ynet portal quoted Blinken as saying.
The war in Ukraine: Israel’s help
In October 2022, Israel officially refused to supply Ukraine with weapons for the war against Russia. Later, the Minister of Defense of the country, Benny Gantz, clarified that Jerusalem will provide assistance to Kyiv, but it will not be air defense.
On January 3, 2023, the new head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Eli Cohen, announced that he would change his department’s policy on the Ukrainian issue.
Recently, Israel admitted that it provides more aid to Ukraine than is reported to the public.
