The official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the dollar remains unchanged from July 2022.
The official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the euro weakened on February 3 by 34 kopecks to 40.17 hryvnias, i.e., for the first time in history, it crossed the 40 hryvnias mark.
This is reported on the official website of the National Bank of Ukraine.
At the same time, according to published data, the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the dollar remains unchanged from July 2022 at the level of UAH 36.57/dollar.
What is happening to the euro:
Since the beginning of the war, on February 24, 2022, the National Bank fixed the exchange rate of the hryvnia to the euro at 33.1707.
From March 23, 2022, the National Bank of Ukraine began to set the exchange rate of the euro depending on the fluctuations of the euro-dollar pair on the global financial market.
Since July 21, the NBU devalued the hryvnia by 25% to 36.5686 per dollar, thus the euro also rose in price.
In 2022, the euro depreciated against the dollar and fell below parity in August. The exchange rate of the euro was affected by the energy crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
However, the situation changed later. Recently, the euro rose to the level of 1.10 against the dollar.
In Ukraine, the NBU rate is set according to the euro-dollar rate and does not depend on the domestic situation.
Course during the war:
As of May 21, 2022, the National Bank has canceled restrictions on setting the rate at which authorized institutions can sell cash foreign currency to clients. Previously, the relevant exchange rate should not have deviated from the official rate by more than 10%.
Before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the country had a floating hryvnia exchange rate.
On July 21, the National Bank weakened the official exchange rate of the hryvnia by 25% to UAH 36.57/dollar.
