Sanctions against Russia
On January 27, 2023, the Council of the European Union decided to extend economic sanctions related to Russia’s banking, financial and energy sectors for another six months, until July 31.
The day before, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against PVK “Wagner” and a number of Russian officials associated with the private military company.
In addition, the countries of the European Union are working on the 10th package of sanctions against Russia. Some EU countries have already called for new sanctions to limit the bloc’s cooperation with Moscow on nuclear fuel, ban imports of Russian diamonds and cut trade with Kremlin ally Belarus.
