The field of intellectual property became the leader in fulfilling obligations under consent.
Ukraine has already fulfilled 72% of the obligations stipulated by the Association Agreement with the European Union.
According to the message on the Government portal, this was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanyshyn during the Ukraine-EU summit held in Kyiv on February 3.
She drew attention to the volume of work performed by all branches of the Ukrainian government after the state acquired the status of a candidate country for EU membership.
“In the conditions of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, we continued the process of adapting Ukrainian legislation to European legislation. We have increased progress in the implementation of the Association Agreement at the level of 9% compared to the indicator of 2021,” Stefanyshyn said.
According to her, the sphere of intellectual property has become the leader in fulfilling obligations under the Association Agreement. Progress in this area increased by 33%. Significant progress has also been achieved in the field of energy, environment, agriculture, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, as well as customs issues.
“In general, during the period of implementation of the Agreement, Ukraine has achieved progress at the level of 90% in the following areas: justice, freedom, security, political dialogue, national security and defense, statistics, public procurement,” the message reads.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that based on the report provided by the European Commission, Ukraine will conduct a self-screening of the state of implementation of Ukrainian legislation to European legislation. Next, the National Program for the Adaptation of the Legislation of Ukraine to the Legislation of the European Union will be developed. The final statement following the summit stated that “the EU will provide technical support to the government in this process.”
Accession of Ukraine to the EU
On February 1, 2023, a consortium of nine Ukrainian expert organizations concluded that Ukraine managed to cross the psychological border of 50% within the framework of fulfilling the necessary criteria for joining the EU. Ukraine’s progress was assessed at 5.8 points out of 10 possible.
As reported, in an evening video message, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi reminded that today, February 3, another Ukraine-European Union summit was held in Kyiv.
“We have quite specific agreements with our partners on how Ukraine will become even closer to the European Union,” Zelenskyi said.
He emphasized that Ukraine is moving towards its goal. The President noted that there is an understanding that it is possible to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union this year.
