Church holiday on February 5.
Saint Clement lived in the 4th century and was raised by his mother in Christian traditions. In those times, when famine came in Galatia and pagans began to abandon their children, Clement took them to his home, taught them the traditions of a pious life. For this, he was later elected a reader, ordained a deacon and presbyter, and he successfully converted many idolaters to Christ.
When King Diocletian began to persecute Christians, he summoned Clement to him and persuaded him to renounce his faith. The saint did not agree, he was tortured for a long time, but he remained unharmed. They imprisoned, where they also sent all those who believed in God and were baptized. Later, Diocletian sent Clement to Emperor Maximian to personally see the martyr, who did not die from torture.
And so it happened – Saint Clement and his disciple Agafangel were tortured by the most skilled executioners, but they could not do any harm to the believers. Then Maximian, not knowing what to do with the Christians, ordered their heads to be cut off. After the death of the emperor, Agafangel was beheaded, and Clement remained alive, but told the Christians that they would kill him soon. And so it happened – the saint also lost his head at the hands of the soldiers.
In honor of the memory of the holy martyrs, the national holiday of February 5 – Agafius half-bread is celebrated today.

What can be done on February 5
A long time ago in Russia, Agafia’s half-bread day was considered a troublesome date. The Slavs sorted through their barns, watched the behavior of birds and looked after livestock.
