In order to increase the stability of the energy system, Ukraine will develop “green” generation in 2023 and within the year plans to commission up to 500 MW of renewable energy capacity, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said at the Ukraine-EU summit.
“We will develop green energy, which will be integrated into the European economy. In particular, this year we plan to commission up to 500 MW of capacity,” he said.
The minister emphasized that the stability of Ukraine’s energy system will also be increased thanks to decentralization and energy efficiency.
Galushchenko also added that Ukraine has a flexible hydro-accumulating infrastructure, which, in combination with other electricity storage technologies, will allow Ukraine to become a hub for its accumulation.
As reported, if the authorities provide investors with an extension of guaranteed support conditions for 1-2 years, they will be able to complete 300-500 MW of “green” energy capacity in the coming months.
Dmytro Grigoriev, the general director of the Odesa Power Grid, DPEK, is convinced that it is now necessary to give priority to the development of “green” generation, since in some periods of time the power system of the Odesa region operates at the expense of renewable energy sources.
