The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was recommended to appoint Acting Minister Ihor Klymenko as the new head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs after the death of the former head of the department, Denys Monastyrskyi.

The relevant decision was made by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement, People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko noted in Telegram.

“The Law Enforcement Committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada appoint Ihor Klymenko to the post of Minister of Internal Affairs,” he wrote.

Tragedy in Brovary

On January 18, 2023, a plane crash involving a helicopter of the State Emergency Service took place in Brovary, Kyiv region.

The former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrskyi, and his team were on board. Nine crew members died, including Deputy Minister Evgeny Yenin and State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lubkovich. Currently, experts are talking about several possible causes of the disaster.

On this day, the government assigned the duties of the Minister of Internal Affairs to the head of the National Police, Ihor Klymenko.

Due to the tragedy in Ukraine, the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were banned from flying helicopters. Now they are allowed to move only by road transport.
