Odesa and Lviv regions and Kyiv have the most outages due to power shortages.
The number of power outages in Ukraine decreased by 42% compared to the end of January.
As reported by the Ministry of Energy on the Telegram channel, today, February 7, the situation with a shortage of available electric power remains at the level of the previous day. At the same time, thanks to the increase in electricity production, despite the cold weather, this deficit is significantly lower than last Tuesday.
“As a result, the number of consumers without power on the morning of Tuesday, February 7, 2023 is 42% less than on Tuesday, January 31,” the message reads.
Due to the power shortage, the largest share of disconnected consumers is in Odesa and Lviv regions and in the city of Kyiv.
The press service reports that due to hostilities, the most difficult situation is with blackouts in Donetsk, Kherson and Kharkiv regions.
At the same time, the situation with electricity supply to the city of Odesa and the Odesa district remains difficult due to network restrictions caused by an accident at one of the substations of the transmission system.
Energy workers are taking all measures to stabilize the situation as soon as possible and restore electricity supply.
Blackout in Ukraine due to Russian attacks: details
Ukraine’s energy system suffered 13 enemy missile attacks and 15 waves of UAV attacks.
In addition, more than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are still inaccessible to the Ukrainian energy system and are under the control of the enemy. This is the largest Zaporizhzhia NPP in Ukraine and Europe, as well as Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vugleghirska TPP, Kakhovka HPP.
At the same time, the majority of wind and solar power plants are located in the temporarily occupied territories in the south of the country.
In addition to the NPP, the rest of the power plants are key regulating capacities. It is they who provide cover for consumption in the peak morning and evening hours, where the current shortage is the greatest.
In the near future, the situation with electricity in Ukraine may worsen. This is due to the fact that due to worsening weather conditions, the load on the power system will increase.
Currently, generation in Ukraine has increased, but as the temperature drops, so does electricity consumption. As next week is expected to be cold, power outages in the capital may become longer, said Serhiy Kovalenko, head of the YASNO energy company.
