What Orthodox holiday do Christians celebrate on February 12 and what should be done today – find out at .
At the time when there were strife in Constantinople in the 11th century, people glorified three saints: John Chrysostom, Gregory the Theologian and Basil the Great. The people could not decide which of the saints was more important than the others, and disputes arose on this basis. Such conflicts offended the Christian faith, so all three saints appeared to Bishop John to convince people not to quarrel, since each of the saints and all of them together are one.
The bishop told the people about it, and since then they began to celebrate the Orthodox and national holiday on February 12 – the Cathedral of the Three Saints or Triochsvyatiye.
The Orthodox holiday of February 12 is the day of memory of the holy martyr Hippolytus
Saint Hippolytus was the bishop of Ostia, located at the mouth of Rome. When he learned about the persecution of Christians and their suffering for their faith, despite the late summer, he appeared at the court and exposed the pagans for inhuman acts. For this, Hippolytus was tortured for a long time, and then tied up and thrown into the sea. His relics are still preserved in Rome.
