The issue of fighter jets is discussed at every Ramstein and presidential meeting.
Ihor Zhovkva, the deputy head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is convinced that Ukraine will be given combat aircraft, which the Ukrainian army so badly needs, he said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
According to him, the issue of fighter jets is discussed at every “Ramstein” and at every meeting of the president.
“I’ll give you one example: you know that during the visit to London there was an achievement – an agreement on the training of Ukrainian pilots on modern models of aviation equipment. The logical question is: why train pilots, if the appropriate supplies of the appropriate equipment will not come after that,” he said official.
He clarified that even before receiving the equipment, Ukrainian pilots should “learn to use these fighters.”
“Just like waiting for tanks, but starting to learn on these tanks. Waiting for long-range artillery systems, but starting to learn on these systems. This is a different type of system, they are radically different from those samples of Soviet weapons that are currently used by Ukrainian servicemen.” – noted Zhovkva.
Fighter jets for Ukraine – opinions of Western countries
Public discussions about the transfer of modern Western fighter jets to Ukraine have been ongoing in Europe and the United States for the past few months.
However, “Ramstein”-9, which, according to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Defense, was supposed to be “aviation”, has not yet given any clear answers regarding the planes. Currently, the West is focusing on sending tanks and long-range weapons to the Armed Forces, as well as accelerating the production of ammunition.
Polish President Andrzej Duda called the possibility of such deliveries “a very serious decision”, adding that the transfer of F-16s by Warsaw would simultaneously create a problem for the Polish Air Force.
Sweden and Belgium have already refused to hand over their fighters.
To replace its entire fleet of Soviet aircraft with American F-16 fighters, Ukraine needs to create at least five air brigades of them.
