The other day, Ukrainian artillerymen hit “Sontsepek”.
Military expert Oleg Zhdanov answered whether an explosion with a thermobaric effect is possible when a projectile hits the Russian Sontsepek heavy flamethrower system.
“There will be no thermobaric effect, because the projectile must explode according to a certain algorithm, in compliance with the technology. First there is the scattering of detonators, then the spreading of the cloud to create the necessary consistency with air, and then detonation. Then there is a volumetric explosion,” the expert noted.
According to him, the “Sontsepek” TGS projectile is a cylinder with compressed gas and a detonator: “They are all in one pile, when hit there will be just an explosion and burning.”
At the same time, Zhdanov reminded that the other day Ukrainian artillerymen hit the Russian “Sontsepek”: “It burns wonderfully, but it does not explode with an explosion that detonates massively.”
TGS “Sontsepek” – general information about weapons
“Soncepek” is a Soviet and Russian weapon system designed to disable lightly armored vehicles and vehicles, set fire to and destroy buildings and structures with a massive explosion.
Destruction occurs by exposure to the target of high temperature, fragments, shock wave and excess pressure, which is created during the mass use of unguided rockets in thermobaric and smoke incendiary equipment.
