The President emphasized that Ukraine is fighting for survival, and Western weapons are the only thing that will bring the world together.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, ruled out the possibility of renouncing any territory of our country as part of a potential peace agreement with Russia.
In an interview with the BBC, the head of our state emphasized that relinquishing territories in favor of the Russian Federation would mean that Russia would be able to “continue to return.”
“Today, our survival is our unity. I believe that Ukraine is fighting for its survival,” Zelenskyy said about how, in his opinion, the war will end. He added that Western weapons are the only thing that will bring the world together.
According to him, Ukraine has chosen the direction of movement towards Europe both economically and value-wise. “We chose this path,” the president said.
Zelenskyi also noted that Ukraine will not make territorial compromises with Russia, and even more so with Putin, who is not trusted at all.
“We want security guarantees. Any territorial compromises will make us weaker as a state. It’s not about the compromise itself. Why should we be afraid of it? Every day we have millions of compromises in life. The question is, with whom? With Putin? No. Therefore . that there is no trust. Dialogue with him? No. Because there is no trust,” the head of the Ukrainian state emphasized.
The war in Ukraine – potential peace negotiations with the Russian Federation
As reported by , Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that he is not interested in meeting with Putin and negotiating peace with him, as he is nobody to him. Putin’s press secretary, Dmytro Peskov, bitterly criticized Zelensky and said that the Ukrainian president “ceased to be a possible opponent” for the head of the Russian Federation a long time ago.
Back in October of last year, Zelensky implemented the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, which stated that our country cannot hold negotiations with the head of the Russian Federation, Putin.
At the same time, the Russian Federation talked about negotiations with Ukraine. The speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, accused the US of “protracting the conflict” and “continuing an aggressive policy.” At the same time, she noted that Moscow is ready for negotiations if Kyiv does not put forward conditions.
At the end of last year, the Russian dictator Putin also stated that he did not refuse negotiations with the Head of the Ukrainian State, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The Kremlin is allegedly ready to discuss “acceptable solutions” to the war.
However, analysts of the Institute for the Study of War believe that Putin is not ready for peace, but is trying to absolve himself of responsibility for the protracted war. At the same time, the Kremlin considers Ukraine an illegitimate state, and Zelensky a puppet.
At the beginning of February, the media reported that in mid-January 2023, US President Joe Biden allegedly instructed CIA director William Burns to check the readiness of Ukraine and Russia for negotiations. Burns offered to end the war in exchange for 20% of Ukrainian territories. Both Ukraine and Russia refused such a proposal, but it unblocked the “tank coalition”. However, the US authorities officially denied these reports of the Swiss media. The White House and the CIA assure that no one has conducted any negotiations with Moscow and Kyiv regarding a “compromise”.
