Ukraine has not yet received fighter jets either from Poland or Slovakia.
Military expert Oleg Zhdanov noted a possible reason why Ukraine has not yet received the MiG-29 multi-purpose fighter jets of the fourth generation from the allies.
“Neither Slovakian nor Polish MiGs have been handed over yet,” he said, noting that earlier everyone was sure that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would receive these aircraft in the summer of 2022.
“We thought that they were handed over in the summer… But, as they say, trust – but check. In the euphoria, no one began to check. But it turned out that the Slovak MIGs have not yet been handed over to Ukraine. And we are still negotiating to have them handed over,” he added.
Zhdanov does not rule out that the likely reason and problem for not handing over fighter jets to Ukraine is that the planes are equipped with avionics from an Israeli company.
Will Ukraine receive the MiG-29 – what was reported
We will remind, on February 10, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, at a summit in Brussels, officially asked Slovakia to transfer MiG-29 fighters. Slovakia will now start negotiations with the European Commission regarding the reimbursement of this military aid.
Later, Polish President Andrzej Dudy said that Ukrainian pilots fly MiG-29s almost every day, and that Poland can transfer them much earlier than other weapons.
