EUMA will be staffed exclusively by civilian personnel.
On Monday, February 20, the European Union launched an EU civilian mission in Armenia to promote stability on the border with Azerbaijan.
The press service of the Council of the EU reported that the EUMA mission was created by a decision of the Council of the EU within the framework of the common security and defense policy (CSDP).
“On the way of its deployment on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, it is intended to contribute to stability in the border areas of Armenia, to strengthen people’s trust and security,” the message states.
The mission should provide conditions that will contribute to the normalization of relations between the countries. EUMA will be staffed exclusively by civilian personnel – about 100 people, including about 50 unarmed observers. The operational headquarters of the mission will be located in the city of Yekhegnadzor.
