Chernyk emphasized that Ukrainian air defense has undergone significant changes over the past year.
Military expert Petro Chernyk suggests that on February 24, the anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the occupiers may launch a missile attack. However, its effectiveness will be lower than during last year’s attacks. At the same time, the expert does not rule out the possibility of sabotage.
In an interview with TSN, Chernyk said that, in his opinion, the enemy now has a large missile salvo of 80-120 missiles in its arsenal. However, he believes that the Russians will not be able to repeat their “own record at the beginning of this war”, when the enemy instantly launched 160 missiles into Ukraine.
“They can resort to some subversive actions – it is quite possible, the remnants of agent networks exist among them. The only serious argument they have left is the weapon of mass destruction. They cannot offer anything else. During this war, they used absolutely all non-nuclear methods against us conducting hostilities,” the expert explained.
At the same time, Chernyk emphasized that Ukrainian air defense has undergone significant changes over the past year. He recalled that at the beginning of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine, our sky was covered by air defense by 15-20%.
“We had the old Soviet S-200, S-300, Buk, Tor-M, Osa complexes and a small number of Western models, primarily the Stinger MANPADS. Since then, our air defense has been saturated with a huge number of new Western developments Iris-T, NASAMS, Crotale, Mistral, Aspid are far from the full range of what we have in our arsenal. In all previous volleys, the indicators of hitting ballistic and aerodynamic targets, and therefore cruise missiles, ranged from 86 to 90%,” the military officer concluded expert.
What to expect from the occupiers on February 24
Given the Russians’ attitude to “sacred dates”, Ukrainians fear that on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the enemy will launch a massive missile attack on Ukraine.
The head of the intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, predicts that the Russians are preparing a “small missile attack”. He noted that Russia can combine strikes with Shaheds and missiles, but these are not new methods.
At the same time, Yuriy Ignat, a representative of the command of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, suggests that the enemy may change his plans after seeing our particularly thorough preparation for various scenarios on February 24. The enemy may strike later, so it is necessary to stay alert.
