The German government said it is trying to employ as many refugees as possible so that they do not have to live on social assistance.
The German government will not force Ukrainians in the country to return to do military service, German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said in a comment to German journalists, DW writes.
“Forcing people to perform military service or undergo military service against their will is not our case,” said the head of the German Ministry of Justice.
According to him, if the Ukrainian authorities want to draft men who left the country into the army, this will not have practical consequences for Ukrainians living in Germany.
“It is impossible for me how we can force people from other countries to serve in arms, given that, according to our constitution, German citizens are not obliged to do this against their will,” the minister said.
He added that the German authorities are striving to create conditions for refugees so that as many of them as possible can quickly get a job and not live on social assistance.
The issue of refugee return
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that all men living in Germany and fit for military service should join the ranks of the Ukrainian army. Those who disobey will face sanctions. According to him, Ukrainian citizens liable for military service who live in Germany or other countries will be asked to report to recruiting stations.
The Ministry of Defense told that the agenda does not include the issue of a mechanism for punishing legal pressure on those liable for military service who are outside Ukraine.
