The head of the National Police is surprised that the authors of the idea do not even know how many police officers there are in Ukraine.
The idea of mobilizing 100 thousand police officers to the front is “strange” and not feasible. This was stated by the head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vygovsky in an interview with Ukrainian News.
“Some citizens, civil servants, officials say that the National Police has 250 thousand police officers, and propose sending 100 thousand to the front. It’s strange when this is stated not by “armchair experts”, but by people who work in the state system and do not know basic numbers,” he said.
According to Vyhovsky, there were 300 thousand in the days of the “militia”, and today the staff of the National Police is 120 thousand people. But even this number is not available in fact – about 17.5 thousand vacancies are not filled in the system. That is, in fact, now only about 100 thousand people serve in the police, of which about 20 thousand are women.
Vygovsky notes that the police are already closely involved in the defense of the country. Several thousand people fight directly at the front in the Lyut unit, but there are other tasks.
“Air support (evacuation of wounded soldiers and victims, delivery of donor materials and doctors), escort of humanitarian aid and evacuation convoys from dangerous zones. This concerns the functions of deterring armed aggression. Then we have the function of documenting war crimes. The National Police is investigating more than 105 thousand today. similar crimes. (…) After each arrival, our workers go out, document, pull people out from under the rubble, help as much as possible,” says the head of the National Police.
At the same time, Vygovsky emphasized that all police officers who wanted to go directly to the front and defend the country on the front line received such an opportunity.
Mobilization in Ukraine: latest news
As wrote, earlier this week the Cabinet of Ministers submitted to the Rada a new bill on strengthening mobilization, which caused a wide resonance in Ukrainian society.
Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets noted that the bill contains provisions that contradict the Constitution. In particular, he did not like the idea of blocking citizens’ assets without court approval.
Speaker of the Command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladimir Fityo noted that the bill will still be finalized, but for now the mobilization process is proceeding according to the old rules.
