New Year is the favorite non-church holiday of Ukrainians, which most people look forward to. Even the most avid skeptics make a wish on New Year’s Eve and believe that their plans will come true. All Ukrainians now want the same thing – victory and peace – and we will name 12 ways to make a wish for the New Year.
Almost everyone knows how to make a wish for the New Year with champagne. This ritual has existed for many years: during the chiming clock, you need to write down a wish on a note, burn it and pour the ashes into a glass, and then have time to drink the drink.
Other countries have their own traditions of making New Year’s wishes. For example, in Spain, when the clock strikes, they eat 12 grapes and make wishes for each one. We know several more ways to make a wish for the New Year so that it comes true. The main thing is to think carefully about what you want, because there will only be one chance.
How to make a wish for New Year 2024 – 12 ways
There are some great options:
- Desire in a ball
In December, write your wish on paper, roll it into a tube and put it in a Christmas tree decoration. Then find any Christmas tree on the street and walk around it nine times, and then hang the Christmas ball with a wish as high as possible on the tree.
- Note in a bottle
Take an empty bottle of champagne or other alcohol. Write down your wish on paper, roll it into a tube and hide it in a bottle. Seal the lid and hide the container away until your wish comes true.
- Desires under the pillow
If you have many wishes, write down each of them on separate notes, roll them into a tube and put them under your pillow on New Year’s Eve. Go to bed, and in the morning of January 1, take out one note. What is written there will come true in the new year.
- Jar of wishes
If you can’t decide on your desire, let the Universe make the choice for you. Write everything you would like on separate notes, and put it in any transparent jar on December 31st. The container can be filled with candies, small toys, and coins. Seal the jar tightly and place it in an inconspicuous place. This Chinese New Year wish ritual requires 8 oranges. Take the oranges in your hands and make a wish, and then on New Year’s Eve roll each orange over the threshold of the house. This is a reliable way to make a New Year’s wish to get pregnant. On New Year’s Eve, before the chimes strike, girls need to have time to peel and eat an orange. If you come across at least one bone, then you should expect a new addition to the family next year.
- Coin of Wish
If you don’t know how to make a New Year’s wish with money, then there is another way with champagne. While the clock strikes, hold a coin in your clenched fist, then in the first seconds of the New Year, place it in a glass of champagne and drink the drink. Take out the coin, put it in your wallet and carry it with you all year. According to legend, the larger the denomination, the higher the chance of the wish coming true.
- Desire on soda
The ritual with soda is carried out to improve the financial situation and get rid of debts in the new year. On the eve of the holiday, write down on paper all your debts, loans and mortgages. Then pour baking soda onto the leaf and quench it with vinegar. This ritual will help you “pay off” your debts next year.
- On a spruce branch
On New Year’s Eve, break off a fir branch, whisper a wish to it and place it in a vase with water on a table or cabinet. After three days, check how many needles have fallen from the branch: if the number is even, then the wish will come true next year, and if it is odd, then it will come true in a few years or will not come true at all.
- On a sparkler
But how to make a wish for the New Year while the chimes are striking, if suddenly you are not prepared at all? Take a sparkler, light it with the first strike of the clock and make a wish. The burned fire must be stored until the wish is fulfilled.
