The expert told how to ease a hangover if you had too much at the holiday.
A hangover is an unpleasant thing. Headache, blood pressure, nausea, loss of strength – these are not all of its “charms”. But you can cope with this. We asked the doctor what can and cannot be done during a hangover.
Post-holiday hangover – how to remove it with home remedies
Therapist Marina Krapivner, in a commentary to , told what should and should not be done during a hangover.
According to the doctor, a hangover needs to be taken care of before it occurs: “First, do not mix drinks, and also avoid drinking sweet carbonated drinks during a feast.” Secondly, the specialist says, you can’t drink on an empty stomach – you definitely need to eat a few hours before the holiday. “It should be both carbohydrates and fats – that is, a sandwich with red fish, with boiled pork, with butter,” the expert advises.
You can also skip a glass the day before – drink 50 g of alcohol, which you will drink during the holiday: “This way we will launch enzymes that metabolize alcohol, and there will be less hangover,” says the doctor.
If you do get a hangover, what should you drink or eat?
Here’s what to do:
- During the day, drink as much liquid as possible without gas;
- try to eat, even if you have no appetite;
- take sorbents and painkillers, blood pressure medications.
Marina Krapivner advises eating food from the list of “hangover” recipes:
These are soups, but the soup should be quite spicy: with spices, with cilantro. Chicken broth soups are also very good.
At the same time, it is not recommended to consume “heavy” food – the pancreas is already overloaded with both alcohol and food. You can take B vitamins and vitamin C. Also, one of the ways to relieve a hangover is to take medications that help remove toxic breakdown products of alcohol.
If, for example, you have a headache or increased blood pressure, then these issues also need to be addressed separately symptom-by-symptom:
Everyone has their own symptoms. Nausea and headache are all symptoms of intoxication, so the main task is to reduce the load of toxins. This means that they need to be removed… If the pressure has increased, we take blood pressure pills as an “ambulance” under the tongue. I have a headache – we take painkillers. But we only remove the symptoms, and not the cause that caused them,
says the expert.
Does brine and cold shower help? According to the doctor, a shower will not help remove the breakdown products of alcohol, but it will help to cheer you up a little for a short time. “Brine can help a little. And, again, due to the fact that, firstly, it is sour, salty, and secondly, salty brine will retain liquid and help fight dehydration that occurs when drinking alcohol,” she explained doctor.
The expert also told how not to get rid of a hangover: “Getting a hangover or going to the bathhouse, for example. Because, especially for people over forty, this is too much stress on the cardiovascular system. The two most harmful pieces of advice.”
