The Poles said they took to the skies two pairs of F-16 fighters to ensure airspace safety
During Russia’s massive missile attack on Ukraine on the morning of January 2, Poland scrambled combat aircraft into the sky. The Polish Armed Forces reported this on the social network X.
“To ensure the safety of Polish airspace, two pairs of F-16 fighters and an allied air tanker were deployed. At about 5.45 a.m., a pair stationed at the base in Łask took off, and at about 6.15 a.m., a pair from the base in Krzesiny took off,” the report says.
After 10 a.m. it was reported that the F-16 fighters had returned to their bases.
“The Polish armed forces are constantly monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace,” the message says.
Missile attack on Ukraine
On the night of January 2, Russia attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones, and subsequently with missiles. The main blow fell on Kyiv and Kharkov. in particular, according to the head of the Kyiv city military administration Sergei Popko, during today’s missile attack on Kyiv, the air defense shot down more than 6 dozen X-101 / X555X-55 missiles and a dozen X-47M2 Kinzhal.
During the previous large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine on December 29, a Russian missile flew into Polish territory.
