So far, full-fledged layered air defense exists only in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, says Kovalenko.
To protect against Russian attacks, every million-plus city in Ukraine must have at least one Patriot air defense system battery. This statement was made by military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko.
As he explained in an interview with , each Patriot air defense system battery must have medium-range protection. We are talking about IRIS-T and NASAMS. In turn, these complexes must have short-range protection, such as Alvis Stormer, Crotale air defense systems, or the same “Buki”, “Cubes”, “Tor-M2”, “Osa-10” air defense systems and the like.
“That is, for every million-plus city a train of this type must be fully prepared. And this is the minimum. This is to create a kind of air defense umbrella over million-plus cities. And then, after million-plus cities, first of all, on the basis of cities -millions of people who are located at the front line, at the directions of the air defense breakthrough in our airspace from Russia, to create a security buffer,” Kovalenko added.
Currently, full-fledged layered air defense in Ukraine is only in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, the observer says.
