Ukraine and the United Kingdom will cooperate in the defense sector over the next 10 years.
The agreement on cooperation in the defense sector, signed yesterday between Ukraine and the UK, provides for cooperation between the two countries in this area over the next 10 years. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov spoke about this during the telethon.
“This is a long-term agreement on military assistance for 10 years. This agreement will also include support for reform in the defense sector,” said the head of the Ukrainian defense department.
He also noted that Great Britain will help Ukraine join NATO. According to Umerov, this agreement is the practical result of the declarations that were proclaimed at the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023.
“Thirdly, the UK will help us continue to use Russia’s economic assets, that is, freeze these Russian assets that are located on British territory. In the end, this agreement is a strengthening of the comprehensive development of all our defense capabilities. We will work in this agreement and in the field of defense industries,” the minister said.
Defense agreement between Ukraine and Great Britain
On Friday, January 12, Ukraine and the UK signed a historic security agreement. It, in particular, provides that in the event of a Russian attack in the future, the Kingdom will provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance quickly and without delay, including modern weapons to repel aggression on land, at sea and in the air.
According to President Vladimir Zelensky, “if such a level of security guarantees had been achieved after 1991 with Britain and other countries, then there would simply not have been Russian aggression.”
