Svitan noted that the Russians have been shelling the Kharkov region from the territory of the Belgorod region for almost 2 years.
The Russian occupiers have intensified the shelling of Kharkov because they want to provoke shelling of Belgorod in response. This opinion was expressed by military expert, instructor pilot, reserve colonel Roman Svitan.
“The Russians need to make a so-called crucified boy out of Belgorod. At one time, they blew up the houses of their own citizens in order to blame it on the Chechens, bring Putin to power and unleash the Second Chechen War. Then one of the episodes associated with this story was called the “Ryazan” sugar,” and what is happening now is “Belgorod sugar,” he explained in an interview with Glavred.
The expert noted that shelling of the Kharkov region from the territory of the Belgorod region has been carried out by the Russians for almost 2 years. In recent weeks, the Ukrainian military has been carrying out retaliatory strikes to destroy enemy launch sites.
“For the second year, the Russians have been shelling Kharkov, mainly from S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems. Such air defense systems are used in ballistic mode: they disable the city’s infrastructure and kill our citizens, Kharkov residents. It is almost impossible to destroy the S-300 missile in the air. Flight time is 40 seconds, the speed is more than Mach 3. It is very difficult to intercept it – you can only destroy the launchers. To knock out the S-300 launchers, you need to hit their location – they are located outside Belgorod in the airfield area. Otherwise, we cannot act, because too many Kharkiv residents died,” the military expert added.
According to Svitan, it was necessary to strike Russian territory to destroy enemy air defense systems from the very beginning of the shelling of Kharkov, but there were not enough forces and means for this.
“Russian fire weapons are capable of delivering strikes at ranges of up to 100 kilometers, but we have practically nothing to strike at such a distance. We can only reach their targets in the Russian Federation, for example, with Alder or drones. We are prohibited from using NATO weapons on Russian territory. Therefore we are tied hand and foot here: we can only hit Russia with weapons that we produce ourselves. In general, I think that in the near future there will be serious retaliatory attacks on launchers on Russian territory. The goal is to destroy them and protect the people of Kharkov from attacks “, he concluded.
Russian strikes on Kharkov
On January 11, Russian occupation forces struck the center of Kharkov. The enemy hit a civilian object, people were injured. They were beaten from the territory of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation.
Subsequently, it became known that it had “flew” through the hotel. It was mainly used by members of the media. Among the wounded were two Turkish media workers: citizens of Turkey and Georgia.
The missile attack on January 11 injured 13 people. The police believe that the enemy’s target was precisely foreign journalists covering the war.
