The opposition leader said that the situation in Ukraine is assessed “as increasingly critical.”
The German opposition party Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which advocates providing Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, is increasing pressure on the federal government. ntv writes about this.
Thus, the leader of the CDU faction, Friedrich Merz, said that the party group in the German parliament wants to submit to the Bundestag a proposal for a resolution that would put the delivery of these missiles to a vote. It should take place after Defense Commissioner Eva Hegl from the Social Democratic Party of Germany makes a report.
“We assess the situation in Ukraine as increasingly critical,” Merz explained.
He believes that now the Ukrainian military has “no prospects” for pushing back the Russian occupation forces. At the same time, Taurus cruise missiles could make a difference.
According to him, during the roll call vote, some members of the German government who spoke out in support of transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine, contrary to the position of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, could “back up their words with actions.”
Taurus missiles for Ukraine
Recently, the leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Germany, Friedrich Merz, again called on the country’s government to transfer Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. He emphasized that they could destroy the Crimean Bridge.
This is not the first such statement by Friedrich Merz. Previously, he also demanded that Scholz transfer these missiles to Ukraine as quickly as possible. Then he recalled Scholz’s call to the leaders of other countries to intensify their efforts aimed at helping Ukraine. Merz added that if the German chancellor stopped resisting the transfer of Taurus missiles, then his words would be more credible.
