For the duration of martial law, control over compliance with restrictions on the sale of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages by Duty Free stores to one person is introduced.
Duty Free stores will be able to sell approximately two packs of foreign cigarettes and two liters of alcohol to one person within one day.
The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine noted that today, January 19, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision to eliminate the tax evasion scheme for the sale of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages in Duty Free stores.
“The government decision provides for the introduction, for the duration of martial law, of effective control over compliance with restrictions on the sale of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages by Duty Free stores to one person for one day (approximately 2 packs of foreign cigarettes and 2 liters of alcohol),” the statement says.
It is noted that for this purpose, the resolution introduced a procedure for the exchange of information between the State Border Service, the State Tax Service, the State Customs Service and Duty Free stores to identify buyers of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.
Restrictions for duty free – what the Rada offers
In August, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill in its entirety that prohibits the sale of cigarettes and alcohol in duty-free stores in Ukraine. People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that thanks to this decision, the state budget will annually receive additional revenues in the amount of 5-7 billion hryvnia.
People’s deputies made appropriate changes to the Customs Code of Ukraine and the law “On state regulation of the production and turnover of ethyl, cognac and fruit alcohol, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, liquids used in electronic cigarettes, and fuel.”
