Travel advisories for four western regions have been relaxed.
The UK Foreign Office has updated official travel advice for Ukraine, softening it somewhat. This is stated on the British government website.
Previously, the British Foreign Office did not recommend that its citizens visit Ukraine under any circumstances.
At the same time, in updated information dated January 22, the department softened this ban for four western regions – Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Chernivtsi. They have moved into the “advise against all but essential travel” category.
At the same time, the British Foreign Office recommends refraining from any travel to other regions of Ukraine.
“There is an ongoing risk of harm to UK citizens as a result of Russian attacks across Ukraine, including from missiles and drones that strike unintended targets, or from falling debris. Although such incidents are more likely to occur in areas where the FCO has advised against all travel, they can also occur in the western regions, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends against all but essential travel,” the department notes.
Ukraine and Britain – latest news
During the recent visit of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Kyiv, Ukraine and Britain signed an agreement on security cooperation. The agreement, in particular, stipulates that in the event of a future Russian attack, Britain will provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance quickly and without delay, including modern weapons to repel aggression on land, sea and airspace.
The UK will also provide £2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2024/25 and will spend at least £200 million on a massive program to rapidly purchase and produce thousands of military drones for Ukraine.
