President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky appointed Andrey Kovalenko as head of the Center for Countering Disinformation. This is stated in the decree of the head of state.
“To appoint Andrei Valerievich Kovalenko as head of the Center for Countering Disinformation,” the presidential decree says.
Earlier, Zelensky issued a decree allowing him to hold the position of head of the Center for Countering Disinformation for the Military.
Who is Andrey Kovalenko
Andrey Kovalenko is an information technology expert, PR consultant. In 2012, he graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev with a degree in sociology. He began his career at the end of 2010 as a journalist. He worked in the publications “Segodnya” and “Comments”, and later served as editor of the website of the TV channel “Espresso”.
Since 2015, Kovalenko worked as editor, first deputy editor-in-chief, and then editor-in-chief of the Depo.ua website.
Since 2018, as an expert in information technology, the new head of the Center for Countering Disinformation has participated in forums of the Polish Institute of East European Studies. Since May 2020, he has held positions as a communications specialist at the State Fisheries Agency and the State Urban Planning Inspectorate. In addition, he headed the media department at the election headquarters of the Servant of the People party of the Borshchagovskaya UTC.
Recently, Kovalenko served as deputy head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council. He is a lieutenant in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
