January 29, 2024 – what church holiday is today according to the new and old calendar
January 29 (February 11, old style) is the day of remembrance of St. Lawrence, the hermit of Pechersk, who was known for the gift of healing.
St. Lawrence of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was called the recluse of Pechersk. He became famous as a healer from diseases, primarily from eye diseases. There is also evidence that the monk could deliver from the induced evil eye and damage. People came to the monk for healing from afar. For example, there is a known case when a man was brought to Lawrence – it was as if a demon had possessed him and tortured him. The attack was such that the man could pick up a tree out of the blue and throw it to the side. Then Lawrence took the man to the relics of the saints in the monastery, and the patient finally brought our peace.
Many historians identify St. Lawrence with St. Lawrence, Bishop of Turov, but a number of other researchers doubt this. The saint was buried in the Near Caves of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, his relics are incorruptible.
