The Hungarian Foreign Minister said that the issue of security guarantees was not discussed at today’s meeting in Ukraine.
Hungary will not continue to supply Ukraine with weapons, but will provide humanitarian assistance.
The Minister of External Economy and Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, said this at a press conference following negotiations with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities. Thus, answering the question whether Hungary is ready to sign a document on security guarantees with Ukraine, following the example of the G7 countries, Szijjártó noted that this issue was not discussed specifically today, January 29.
At the same time, he added: “You know the Hungarian point of view. I have to tell you that in the future we will not supply weapons, just as we have not supplied them before. At the same time, we have never refused a citizen of Ukraine when they asked us about help. And after that we will also (help – Ed.). Hungary is ready to help every citizen of Ukraine who is in trouble. That is, we continue the humanitarian direction.”

After the negotiations, a joint press conference was held by Szijjarto, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba, and the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak. During the event, Szijjártó commented on Hungary’s unblocking of EU aid to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros. He did not specify whether his country is ready to change its position on this issue. The minister only emphasized that this issue is not a bilateral issue between Hungary and Ukraine. “We will discuss this not here, but in Brussels,” Szijjarto said.
