On the night of January 31, a press conference was held at which the fight between Vasily Lomachenko and George Kambosos was officially announced.

The fight will take place on May 12, 2024 at the RAC Arena in Perth (Australia).

The winner of the Lomachenko-Kambosos fight will receive the IBF lightweight title, which became vacant after American boxer Devin Haney decided to change weight categories at the end of November last year and vacated all the major lightweight championship belts – WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO.

Former world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko commented on the future fight against Kambosos.

“I’m really excited to be back and really excited to be there. See you on May 12th.”

This is the next chance to become world champion again. And I’ve never been to Australia. I’ve always wanted to go there, and this is a good chance.

Now my goal is to become world champion again. After this, I can start thinking about the title of absolute champion again,” Lomachenko said.

George Kambosos also commented on the appointment of the fight against Lomachenko.

“I respect what he said. But I’m not here to tell you who won and who lost. I’m focused on May 12.”

May 12 is a new day. May 12th will be a very exciting day. What a fight this will be! Kambosos vs Lomachenko in Perth – two warriors. That’s what’s important, and the past is the past.

I only go for victory. It’s not about money, it’s not about titles. Lomachenko wants to become world champion again, but I just want to win. A title is a title, my motivation is a legacy,” Kambosos said.

Note that Vasyl Lomachenko will fight for the first time after losing to Devin Haney last year. George Kambosos, in turn, defeated Maxi Hughes last summer after two defeats to the same Devin Haney.

Lomachenko’s track record includes 17 victories (11 by knockout) and 3 defeats in the professional ring. Kambosos spent 23 fights during his professional career, winning 21 (10 by knockout) and suffering 2 defeats.
